Welcome to the Fantasy Football Archivers Podcast with your host, zach Waldron, and John Miller, aka J Mill.
Speaker 2:Hello and welcome to the third episode of the Fantasy Football Archivers. My name is Zach Waldron, your co-host, John Miller, aka J Mill. Hey, hey, and on today's episode we are going to be looking into wide receiver ADP versus top 10 finishes and to start looking at the ADP for wide receivers from the 2023 season. At number 1.4 was Justin Jefferson. Jamar Chase was at 3.6,. Tyree Kill was at 6.8,. Stefan Diggs was at 8.4,. Ceedee Lamb was at 12.9,. Aj Brown was at 14.4,. Devontae Adams was at 15.2. Cooper Cupp was at 15.5. Aminra St Brown was at 17.7. Garrett Wilson was at 17.9. And then, jumping over to Superflex, Justin Jefferson was at 4. Jamar Chase was at 8.3. Tyree Kill was at 12.1. Stephon Diggs was at 17.6. Ceedee Lamb was at 20.6. Aj Brown was at 19.6. Devontae Adams was at 22.6. Cooper Cupp was at 21.5. Aminra St Brown was at 26.7. Garrett Wilson was at 25.1. J-mill looking at the ADP for the 2023 season between single quarterback and super flex. Was there any draft players for the wide receivers that jumped out?
Speaker 3:there were obviously a few reverses in there.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no, uh, definitely feel like there's some of those that missed pretty bad, but um, it seems like a lot of that list kind of held true in some way or another the one thing that does stick out to me, especially for if you're looking at super flex compared to single quarterback, is how you had cd lamb and aj brown switch draft positions, and then davante adams and cooper cup switch draft positions, and then I'm around st brown and garrett wilson switch draft positions.
Speaker 3:Yeah, again, I'm. Obviously it's different people that super flex leagues versus, uh, regular standard redraft leagues and whatnot. So just from the philosophical difference of playing in a Superflex league, people are going to draft a little bit differently. It's not the same people that are drafting both.
Speaker 2:No, superflex is a very direct group of people that play where most people are still playing in the standard single quarterback leagues.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I mean by most people. You mean not us, but you know.
Speaker 2:Yes, that is true. So jumping in over to the top 10 finishes for wide receivers from the 2023 season, j-mill. Can you guess who those top 10 were?
Speaker 3:Well, I mean, I know who the top two were. Ceedee Lamb edged out Tyreek Hill at the end of the season. Tyreek was having an amazing season and just kind of fell off down the stretch as a result of some injury issues and CeeDee Lamb was able to pass him at the end. I know that AJ Brown stayed on this list because he had a pretty historic— a lot of these guys actually had pretty significant historical seasons at some point in time or another. This year I know AJ Brown had a huge stretch in which he set some records. I know Amon Ra had a good season. There was definitely a rams wide receiver on the list but it wasn't put cooper cup but so but we're talking about the ones who were on the list. Before I start making guesses who had who else joined them right?
Speaker 2:yes, that is correct.
Speaker 3:We're looking off of the adp on who out of those top 10 adp players finished in the top 10 uh, and I know justin jefferson, Justin Jefferson had some injury issues that year and obviously Kirk Cousins went down too and Jamar Chase had issues with Joe Burrow being out. I think that probably kicked Jamar Chase out, but honestly, off the top of my head, I'm not sure if it kicked Justin Jefferson out of the top 10. Garrett Wilson, with Zach Wilson thrown to him, couldn't possibly have retained his value. Stefan Diggs didn't perform after they switched coordinators. Some guessing Diggs probably fell off. Devontae Adams I don't know. Yeah, I'm just going to say it. I don't know if Devontae Adams stayed on or not. I wouldn't be shocked if he did or didn't.
Speaker 2:Okay. So if you were to order them in order for the top 10, who do you think was from one to 10? Just overall of the finished season.
Speaker 3:Well, I have clear memories that it was CeeDee Lamb, one and Tyree Kill two. Yes, going after that, I'm going to guess that it's potentially AJ Brown three. Amon Ross, st Brown, four, because I had shares of both of those guys and I feel like more often than not, I was outscoring my opponent. I'm going to guess the Rams wide receiver on the list, puka Nakua, clocks in at five. So we'll take a shot at that. Let's see. Who do you think the next five? I think there's a chance that somewhere in there, Justin Jefferson slipped into that six to 10 range. Maybe a Brandon Iuke, maybe a Nico Collins? Okay, I'm definitely feeling that and I'm just kind of going through every one of my mind right now it's a quarterback that CJ Stroud obviously had a really good year, so that that that I definitely feel like Nico Collins is in that group. You know what? Let's not talk against Devontae Adams, let's just say he stayed in there and I feel like I'm missing someone. Obvious. I'm missing someone obvious, right?
Speaker 2:You are, but for one person that you are missing. It's kind of obvious, but he did fall off at the end of the year.
Speaker 3:Okay, so kind of obvious Hot start fell off towards the end of the year. He kind of obvious hot start fell off towards the end of the year he was in the top 10 of adp wide receivers for the 23 season okay, so I'm guessing that stefan digs. Then yes, barely held on to a spot all right.
Speaker 2:How'd I do so? Out of the for the top 10 finishes you got cd lamb correct tyree kill. I'm in ross, st brown, puka nakua, aj Brown, stefan Diggs and Devante Adams all correct in the top 10.
Speaker 3:So I nailed the top five, then Just got the three through five in the wrong order.
Speaker 2:So your top 10 finishes for 2023 seasons for the wide receivers was number one was CeeDee Lamb Okay. Number two was Tyree Kill. Number three was Aminra St Brown Okay. Number four was Puka Nakua Okay. Number five was AJ Brown Okay. When you first started talking, you got those five correct, which is not in the correct order, yeah. Then number six, dj Moore Wow.
Speaker 3:How did I forget DJ Moore? I had shares of DJ Moore that year.
Speaker 2:Number seven was Mike Evans.
Speaker 3:Wow, number eight was Keenan Allen allen I don't feel bad for for missing that one number nine was stefan diggs okay and then, to finish it out, in number 10 was davante adam okay, so nico collins didn't break through. That that's kind of interesting to me the two that are the most surprising.
Speaker 2:that made this list would be dj mo yes, he did have a career year in numbers and then Keenan Allen, especially on how injured he was this year.
Speaker 3:Keenan Allen kind of really shocks me on this list. I'm, I just didn't, I didn't have. No, I had a share of Keenan Allen too. I traded for Keenan Allen in a championship, run down the stretch. Wow, I just didn't know.
Speaker 2:I think the only thing that got Keenan Allen in here was all the catches he had. He's a PPR magnet.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'd imagine that if this wasn't a PPR, if we weren't talking PPR, ADP, that it would be a much different story oh it would be a much different story if it was not a PPR league.
Speaker 2:I don't even think Keenan Allen would be in the top, maybe top 15.
Speaker 3:Tyreek is probably number one.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Tyreek would be number one, probably in a non-PPR over CD Lamb and then St Brown might be, would probably still be in the top 10, but I don't think he'd be top 30.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'm ashamed for missing Mike Evans, though Like to be completely honest, I remember Mike Evans had a big year with Baker Mayfield thrown to him. Remember Mike Evans had a big year with Baker Mayfield thrown to him.
Speaker 2:Baker was just kind of like, yeah, I'm just going to keep on throwing it to you, but is this the first year that I can remember that Mike Evans is in the top 10 for a few years?
Speaker 3:It's been a little while since Mike Evans has been in the top 10. I mean, he's no stranger to it. There were points in times where he was amongst the top five consistently in the sport, but it's been. I feel like it's been a solid two year. Well, no, huh I don't think he was no, he didn't really do well with brady, did he?
Speaker 2:he had. I'm pretty sure he had one good year with brady and that was the year they won the super bowl, yeah, and that was what year one? Yeah, and then last year I don't think he did good he's. He's always been the touchdown, and by last year, you mean 2022. Yes, 2022 season. He's always been a touchdown dependent, which always has to boost him into the top, possibly top 15, top 20.
Speaker 3:But to be fair, mike Evans is also like, if you're making like a parlay or something and you're trying to get a touchdown scorer in there, mike Evans always kind of feels like a safe touchdown scorer too.
Speaker 2:Oh to get a touchdown scorer in there. Mike evans always kind of feels like a safe touchdown score too. Oh, 100. And then out of the top 10, who do you think's the most surprising? That is that they are where they are as far as made it or missed it.
Speaker 3:Yeah, out of who made it, I mean it has to be keenan allen. For me, like, honestly, I still, I'm still kind of in disbelief even after you said it. But when you said dj moore and mike Evans, I remembered that. Oh yeah, no, wow, I can't believe I missed those. When you said Keenan Allen, I kind of still don't believe you, but I know you have the hard data in front of you.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it is a little surprising that Keenan Allen did make the top 10. We could have possibly a whole episode just talking about Keenan Allen making the top 10. Right but if you were to compare the top 10 to the top 10 ADP out of the ADP players for the top 10, are you surprised that some of them didn't make it?
Speaker 3:Well, I mean, I thought that Jefferson still stayed in there. So I'm a little surprised at that. But Chase was playing without his quarterback. Jefferson had injury. Then Kirk Cousins went down, then he played without his quarterback. Garrett Wilson was had injury. Um, then kirk cousins went down, then he played without his quarterback. Garrett wilson was zach wilson can't support any top 10 wide receiver regardless of who they are.
Speaker 2:Post to have aaron rogers for the whole season goes down four plays into week one yeah.
Speaker 3:So really, when I look at it, like it's not surprising that any of them missed it, because but it's not any of their faults either I'm going to be drafting. You know, in 2024 I would still draft justin jefferson, jamar chase and garrett wilson high oh 100 and then you have cooper cup.
Speaker 2:Who, cooper cup? Had the injury going in, yeah. And then you have puka nakua, who broke out and was the number four player for wide receivers for the 2023 season.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so I'm not that surprised or concerned for any of them. I mean, obviously Cooper Cup in 2024 will take a little bit of a step back with Pukunuku there, but honestly they're all safe bets to be top wide receivers in 2024.
Speaker 2:If you were to look at the top 10 finishes, if we were to jump ahead, look at the 2024 season, do you see any of them possibly finishing or being a top 10 ADP wide receiver?
Speaker 3:I mean all of them have the potential, with the exception of DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, who are now teammates with a rookie quarterback yes, that is very true.
Speaker 2:And then also you have Stefan Diggs, who's going to a Houston Texans team that is already set in, nico Collins and Tank Dell.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I'm not going to bet against Stefan Diggs, though.
Speaker 2:Just because it's Stefan Diggs.
Speaker 3:Yeah, okay, I wouldn't necessarily rank him in the top 10 myself going into 2024, but I'm not going to. I would definitely not be surprised if he made it okay.
Speaker 2:So if we were to look over at aj brown, who did finish at number five, he started out. If, with the career year, the historic pace, historic numbers too, for what was it?
Speaker 3:top six 125 yard games yeah, I mean I forget what the exact records were that he was breaking, but I remember he was setting records for like the first half of the season, which does make it surprising that both Amon Ra and Puka passed him though, you know, not trying to take anything away from their amazing years.
Speaker 2:But then you do have right after the second half of the year. Eagles just fell off in the hole yeah, honestly, that's it.
Speaker 3:Talk about major collapses. It just wasn't pretty for philadelphia eagle fans especially when I'm an eagles fan.
Speaker 2:It was a very depressing second half of the year I mean, for what it's worth.
Speaker 3:We I'm a jets fan and we lost our supposed franchise quarterback four uh four plays into the season so, so, yeah, that is very sad. Yeah, I don't feel bad for you having a top five wide receiver.
Speaker 2:And then you have a top 10 ADP receiver who knows where he finished in 2023.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I don't even want to talk about that. I'm sure it would be surprisingly better than what I think, because he did have a good year, but I know it's nowhere near the top 10 no, it's probably not. He's probably just in the top 20 potentially or just in the top 25, somewhat somewhere in probably in that 20 to 25 range yeah, it's true.
Speaker 2:So, and then also another receiver I want to talk about is davante adams. How did he still make it into the top 10?
Speaker 3:Well, I mean didn't. When Aiden O'Connell finally took over, which wasn't he just kind of like I'm going to throw everything in the area of Devontae Adams?
Speaker 2:Not even Aiden O'Connell. I'm pretty sure it was once Jimmy Garoppolo went down. Yeah, once Josh McDaniels got fired, they bring in the new intern head coach fired. They bring in the new intern head coach. Aiden Connell becomes the quarterback. They're like, all right, devontae Adams.
Speaker 3:You get the ball and that is it. Yeah, so that's how it happened. Like, realistically, I don't I'm sure that the his year didn't start off that great. I remember Jacoby Meyer actually having a good early start to the season, but at the same time it was it felt like, uh, the few times that you were watching the Raiders in late 2023 that, oh, there's another pass to Devontae Adams.
Speaker 2:Or another 10-catch game for Devontae Adams. Yeah, so we're going to wrap up today's episode. We're going to take a look back at the wide receiver ADP for single quarterback and super flex Justin Jefferson was at 1.4. Jamar Chase was at 3.6. Tyreek Hill was at 1.4. Jamar Chase was at 3.6. Tyreek Hill was at 6.8, stefan Diggs was at 8.4. Ceedee Lamb was at 12.9, aj Brown was at 14.4, devontae Adams was at 15.2, cooper Cup was at 15.5, amin Rahman St Brown was at 17.7, garrett Garrett Wilson was at 17.9, and then Superflex Justin Jefferson was at 4, jamar Chase was at 8.3, tyreek Hill was at 12.1,. Stephon Diggs was at 17.6, ceedee Lamb was at 20.6,. Aj Brown was at 19.6, devontae Adams was at 22.6, cooper Cupp was at 21.5,. Aminrah St Brown was at 26.7, garrett Wilson was at 25.1.
Speaker 2:And then, going into your top 10 finishes again, ceedee Lamb was at number 1, tyreek Hill was at number 2, aminrah St Brown was at number 3, puka Nuku was at number 4, aj Brown was at number 5, dj Moore was at number 6, mike Evans was at number 7, keenanuku was at number 4, aj Brown was at number 5, dj Moore was at number 6, mike Evans was at number 7. Keenan Allen was at number 8. Stefan Diggs was at number 9. Devontae Adams was at number 10. Thank you for listening to the third episode of the Fantasy Football Archivers.
