Welcome to the Fantasy Football Archivers podcast with your host, zach Waldron, and John Miller, aka J Mill.
Speaker 2:Hello and welcome to season two of the Fantasy Football Archivers. My name is Zach Waldron, with your co-host, john Miller, aka J Mill. Hey, hey, and on this season we're going to be doing a deep dive of the 2022 ADP vs Top 10 finishes for quarterback running back, wide receivers and tight ends, quarterback running back, wide receivers and tight ends. And on episode one, we're going to be jumping into the 2022 season for quarterback ADP versus top 10 finishes.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and I remember a few things about the 2022 season. So some things that bit me hard because I drafted too much of a certain player, and some other things where I Well, okay, we'll go into it after you list the ADPs, because I'm definitely going to feel the pain when you say one of the names.
Speaker 2:With me. Looking at this list, you're going to be a little mind blown too on where they go. For her. To start things off with single quarterback Josh Allen was at 22. Patrick Mahomes was at 31.2. Justin Herbert was at 33.7. Lamar Jackson was at 31.2, justin Herbert was at 33.7, lamar Jackson was at 43.2, joe Burrow was at 52.5, kyler Murray was at 53.4, jalen Hurts was at 61.7, russell Wilson was at 71.2, tom Brady was at 74.1, aaron Rodgers was at 88.7. That is for single quarterback. Now for super flex. Josh Allen was at 1.5. Justin Herbert was at 3.2. Patrick Mahomes was at 4.4. Lamar Jackson was at 6.7. Joe Burrow was at 11.7. Kyler Murray was at 12.9. Jalen Hurts was at 17 point three, russell Wilson was at 20 point six, dak Prescott was at 23 point six and Tom Brady was at 25 point six. J-mill yes. Looking at that list, do you see a difference Because I already do between single quarterback and super flex?
Speaker 3:You know, I mean obviously the, the very noteworthy one at the beginning, where, where Patrick Mahomes fell all the way down to third and was hurtled by Justin Herbert man. Justin Herbert was the person I was remembering when I said what I had to say about at the beginning of the show, because I definitely had a few Herbert shares this year and I remember them not working out well at all.
Speaker 2:And you're saying for the 2022 season.
Speaker 3:Yes, this is for the 2022 season.
Speaker 2:If you looked at another player on this between the two lists, does anyone jump out to you who's not on it and who is?
Speaker 3:Are we analyzing Superflex ADP versus regular ADP or? Are you having me jump into my guesses here now.
Speaker 2:No, no For the single quarterback, adp and Superfflex adp. How you had one person who finished 10 for adp on single quarterback and then you had another player who was not on single quarterback and then you had that same quarterback who was not on superflex oh, my goodness, I completely missed that.
Speaker 3:Okay, I mean, tom tom brady was on both lists, wasn't he? Tom brady was on both lists. Aaron rogers was on one list and I wasn't he.
Speaker 2:Tom Brady was on both lists.
Speaker 3:Aaron Rodgers was on one list and I didn't think I heard his name on the other.
Speaker 2:Aaron Rodgers was number 10 for ADP for single quarterback and then for number nine for Superflex. You had Dak Prescott.
Speaker 3:Yeah, Now I'm trying to remember back to here. Now, this is still well after the Dak injury at this current point in time, right?
Speaker 2:Or was this the season after it? Pretty sure this is the season after the Dak injury.
Speaker 3:Okay, that makes some level of sense to them, and I'm guessing that Dak was still being considered, that some of those super flexes were also dynasties and Dak was being considered long-term when he was being drafted there. That would be my only guess why Dak would have taken a spot from Rodgers.
Speaker 2:But the thing that still does get to me is like how for Superflex, dak Prescott does jump to the number nine spot for ADP jumps over Tom Brady, but then in single quarterback Tom Brady's number nine and then Aaron Rodgers is 10. Dak Prescott's not even in the top 10 for ADP.
Speaker 3:I'm going to guess that some of those super flex numbers are skewed by are skewed by them also being dynasty too, that's. That's my only guess that because I feel like a dynasty league is more likely to run a super flex than a than a redraft league that is very true, and so 2022 was not the serious injury for dak prescott.
Speaker 2:It was just a fractured thumb okay, gotcha, you know.
Speaker 3:I mean obviously we're recording this, uh, a few years in the future, at this point in time, but uh, I don't remember everything. I remember the quarterbacks that did well for me and I remember the quarterbacks that hurt me this year, but I can't say I remember everything that happened with Dak Prescott this year.
Speaker 2:Especially in 2022.
Speaker 3:Well, yeah.
Speaker 2:To look over at the top 10. Finishes J-Mail. Could you guess those top 10?
Speaker 3:Okay. So right off the top of my head, I know guys who didn't hold their value, included Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson. I know they who didn't hold their value included Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson I know they're not there. I think this was in the streak of where Josh Allen was still finishing number one. So I'm going to say Allen won and I know that Mahomes was still a valuable, was still a strong fantasy option at this point in time. And I think Hurts is there.
Speaker 3:I don't know if Burrow is there because there was a chase injury this year, if I remember correctly, but I think Burrow is still there with the chase injury. And I remember two quarterbacks that came out of nowhere this season because I had shares of Justin Fields and that definitely helped me out. And I am a longtime advocate against Geno Smith and I still don't think he's all that great of a quarterback, but this was the year he kind of had that career year of sorts. Oh man, besides that, I don't think Brady stayed on this list because this is the year that the Bucks barely clinched the division Like they were sub 500, if I remember correctly, like an eight and nine division clincher. Maybe it was nine and eight, I'm not sure. So I don't think. I think Brady had a lot of passing attempts this year, but I don't think he cracked the top 10.
Speaker 2:I don't know so far. You have the top six listed. I have the top six. Okay, seven through 10. You still have to list. Okay, did Kyler Murray play all the games this year? No, the list.
Speaker 3:Okay, uh, did, did kyler murray play all?
Speaker 2:the games. This year no, for 2022.
Speaker 3:I don't believe he did okay and this is russell wilson's denver year. This is not his last year, oh yeah, no, this is. If this is gino's first year in, uh, with seattle, this means it's russ's denver year. So that's definitely not there. I'm trying to think uh, I think two had a concussion this year, so I'm not so. I'm really just trying to go through everything. I don't think that. Uh, I'm guessing that there's a chance that cousins is around because of jefferson. Uh, how many more do I have to guess? So you three, you still have three, three more. Has ryan tannahill faded to obscurity already?
Speaker 3:yeah, right, yeah he was, he was nothing yeah, jared goff has probably risen, so I'm gonna put jared goff in here. Okay, and this is the cup injury year, right? This is the cup injury year and this is pre-nukuwa, right?
Speaker 2:yes, yeah, it's definitely pre-nukuwa. Puka didn't come till 2023. And then this is the at the. 2022 was the major year. Cooper cup was coming got hurt because they also won the super bowl in 2022 oh, but they won the super bowl in 2022, after the 2021 season yes that's true.
Speaker 3:Yes, so, and cup was hurt the year after that. Okay, so I'm going to go with that. Uh, stafford is not on this list. Um the two quarterbacks you are probably having trouble listing because they're not usually in the top 10 okay, I'm just gonna say that, uh man, I'm gonna go with tom brady still stuck in because he had way too many passing attempts and passing completions. I know that clue doesn't necessarily work. Um, I'm trying to think is there a young quarterback Did Tua Tua, had a concussion?
Speaker 2:this year, right? Yes, Tua did have a concussion in 2022.
Speaker 3:I'm going through a list of starting quarterbacks right now. This is pre-Baker being relevant. It would be hilarious if it was like Marcus Mariota Purdy didn't play enough this year.
Speaker 2:Purdy was Purdy in even the league. Purdy wasn't in the league in 2022.
Speaker 3:No, yes, he was he was yeah, he was a rookie. He played the last six games of the season, yes, but that definitely wasn't enough to get you on the list. I'm gonna guess that maybe this is trevor lawrence's one year where he was actually super relevant okay, so you're.
Speaker 2:So you got your top 10. So, yeah, to go back and look, so we're to look at the top 10 finishes for the 2022 season. At number one was Patrick Mahomes. Really, it wasn't Josh Allen. No, it wasn't, it was Patrick Mahomes. Number two was Josh Allen. That's not a surprise.
Speaker 3:I'm guessing three was Hertz, because Hertz was getting drafted third the whole year afterwards.
Speaker 2:Yes, number three was Jalen Hurt. Number four was Joe Burrow.
Speaker 3:Burrow was that high, even with a chase injury. Yes, wow, I'm kind of impressed. Number five was Geno Smith. I remember that. I painfully remember Geno being in the top five.
Speaker 2:Number six was Justin Fields.
Speaker 3:Okay, he helped me a lot that year and Purdy helped me down the stretch that year.
Speaker 2:Yes, number seven was Kirk Lawrence.
Speaker 3:Okay, I mean he had one or two good seasons, right.
Speaker 2:So far that we know of he's been in the league. We're now in 2024, but he's been in the league since 2021. I'm pretty sure he's only had one good season. Oh, and I guess this was it. Number nine was Daniel Jones. Oh, my goodness, I told you Danny times Daniel Jones. Oh, my goodness, I told you Danny Dimes. And then number 10 was Jared Goff. Oh, so Goff didn't sneak in.
Speaker 3:Okay, yes, so I missed Brady and I got. I missed Dimes and I missed Brady.
Speaker 2:So if we looked at this list and went down and compared, compared on where they finished and who we were not expecting, and we compared it to the adp you had justin herbert did not stay up to value.
Speaker 3:Lamar jackson and I. I definitely bought in on justin herbert lamar jackson and justin fields that year but yeah, everyone bought in the herbert after going off in 2021. Lamar jackson just didn't perform well, I think that was the year Lamar Jackson was still having those illness issues down the stretch, if I remember correctly, like there was like a dietician change in the off season here and he started. There might be there might have been some injuries, but I think there was a lot of illness down the stretch with Lamar.
Speaker 2:So 2022 was the year that he, he missed after week 10. He didn't play.
Speaker 3:But I feel there was a lot of illness in there and then there was an injury too, I guess. I don't know, I can't remember exactly.
Speaker 2:I don't exactly remember for the 2022 season, but yeah, he didn't play week 11 on Wow, so you kind of can give Lamar a slide because he was injured for the rest of that season.
Speaker 3:Yeah, but there was some weird stuff, because I remember that when they were in the playoffs that he didn't come back for the playoff game and a lot of people were giving him criticism because they felt like he he would have. That was when Logan Wilson forced a fumble at that. Tyler Huntley fumbled that Lamar Jackson probably wouldn't have. So Jackson not playing cost it and a lot of people were questioning Jackson's toughness at that point in time. I remember that.
Speaker 2:But any and then you had Kyler Murray, who was in and out of being hurt. Russell Wilson was nothing in Denver Nope. Denver paid him. All this money was nothing Nope. Yeah, tom Brady, like you were saying earlier, they were a subpar team. Yeah, the team was pretty bad that year.
Speaker 3:They, they, they were still division. I think they still won a playoff game. They beat Dallas, if I remember correctly.
Speaker 2:And then you have Aaron Rodgers, who just pretty sure Aaron Rodgers was hurt that year.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and he was kind of fading. At that point in time it felt like too, oh, rodgers played all 17 games.
Speaker 2:So I'm not sure what Green Bay was doing then that Rodgers fell off.
Speaker 3:Yeah, I don't 100% remember. I just remember that it felt like it was after he stopped winning MVPs. He stopped being like a top fantasy quarterback.
Speaker 2:So to just run down, go over, go over the top 10. So you had Patrick Mahomes at number one.
Speaker 3:He just that's kind of surprising. Like I, I don't remember the year that Patrick Mahomes beat Josh Allen. Apparently, it was this year, I guess. I guess, when you have Gino Smith and Daniel Jones appearing in the top 10, you don't pay attention to the fact that uh, you don't pay attention to the fact that mahomes and alan switch spots yeah, and then josh alan was coming off a great year.
Speaker 2:Yeah, jalen hurts was just emerging as a great quarterback. Yep, joe burrow was connecting with jamar chase, but jamar chase got hurt.
Speaker 3:Joe Burrow still did well. It kind of shows how good Burrow is.
Speaker 2:Geno Smith in a whole new team and finishes at a top five fantasy quarterback.
Speaker 3:Everyone has a career year. He hasn't really duplicated it since. He hasn't duplicated that year since then.
Speaker 2:No, justin Fields carried himself into the top six with his rushing ability. Yep. That's the only reason why he's in the top 10.
Speaker 3:Into the top six with his rushing ability. That's the only reason why he's in the top 10. Yeah well, from a fantasy perspective you don't care, right?
Speaker 2:No, you don't, kirk Cousins, you had Jay Jedis, justin Jefferson.
Speaker 3:I mean, it's easy to be good when you're throwing to Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 2:But the crazy thing, though, is Justin Jefferson was drafted in 2021?.
Speaker 3:No, I think he was drafted in 2021. So this is justin. Jefferson was drafted in 2021. No, I think um. Yeah, I think he was drafted 2021 so this is just here in the league he. He broke out his first year, though like it didn't oh yeah, he told everyone off.
Speaker 2:Yeah, trevor lawrence first year with doug peterson. Yeah, doug peterson came in, turned him around, got trevor lawrence to what everyone thought he would be, daniel jones.
Speaker 3:I, I don't know, I mean this was uh dables first year, know. I mean, this was uh Dable's first year too right?
Speaker 2:yes, this was Brian Dable's first year, so it was, so he got the. Basically, you could say he got the Josh Allen effect, but not yeah, he.
Speaker 3:I mean he does run, like Daniel Jones can run.
Speaker 2:Yes, and then Jared Goff.
Speaker 3:It was his second year in Detroit from being traded from Los Angeles and really it was kind of the first Campbell had started to turn the lines around, mindset wise at this point in time, and it's a golf started to buy into the system. Yeah.
Speaker 2:And the crazy thing is, jared Groff was always a good quarterback. The Rams just gave up on them.
Speaker 3:I think so. I mean it's. I. I obviously believe that Matthew has Stafford is a better quarterback than Jared Goff. But to give up as much as they gave up, and give up Jared Goff always kind of didn't sell well with me. But you know what I will grandly admit I'm wrong, because at this current point in time the Rams got their Super Bowl ring as a result of that trade and the Lions haven't yet.
Speaker 2:So until the Lions get the ring, the trams won that trade, yeah, but yeah it's going back at the 2022 season for quarterbacks between single quarterback and super flex and the top 10 finishes. It was a interesting season.
Speaker 3:Definitely was. I mean just the, the Gino and the and the dimes alone makes for a quite a humorous list. And then when you see like brady's and rogers slipping off so kind of a changing of the guard, you have the rough years from uh dac and murray and herbert and uh lamar. So russell wilson and yet, through all of this, there is still a level consistency at the top, where it's, where it was pat from homes and josh allen for multiple years as one and two.
Speaker 2:And to look back at the 2022 ADP for single quarterback and super flex, again in the top 10 finishes, josh Allen was at 22, patrick Mahomes at 31.2,. Justin Herbert at 33.7,. Lamar Jackson at 43.2, joe Burrow at 52.5, kyler Murray at 53.4, 52.5. Kyler Murray at 53.4. Jalen Hurts at 61.7. Russell Wilson at 71.2. Tom Brady at 74.1. Aaron Rodgers at 88.7. And then Superflex Josh Allen at 1.5. Justin Herbert at 3.2. Patrick Mahomes at 4.4. Lamar Jackson at 6.7. Joe Burrow at 11 11.7, kyler Murray at 12.9, jalen Hurts at 17.3, russell Wilson at 20.6, dak Prescott at 23.6, tom Brady at 25.6. In the top 10 finishes for the 2022 quarterback season was Patrick Mahomes, josh Allen, jalen Hurts, joe Burrow, geno Smith, justin Fields, kirk Cousins, trevor Lauren, daniel Jones and Jared Goff. So thank you again for listening to the second season of the Fantasy Football Archivers, episode 1. My name is Zach Waldron, your co-host, jay Mill. Hey, hey, and thanks again.
